Thoughts from The Human PinBall

HPB is in China and has something to share:

At a show in China I came across the New Pregnant Belly Casting Kit -
It is beautifully displayed in a floor point of purchase displayer.
Many questions came to mind as I studied this kit -
1. What would you do with a big plaster-of-paris belly/breast casting? Paint it gold, frame it and hang it in the living room?
Let the older kid's wear it for Halloween? Flip it over and use it as a fruit bowl on the dining room table? Save it and when the kid becomes an adult say...
"I have a precious keepsake for you"...and hand it to them?

2. Secondly - as a woman who has had three pregnancies in her lifetime - I can tell you from experience that if someone would have even hinted at preserving my big fat belly and other body parts in a plaster keepsake, .... I would have ripped their head off with my bare hands.

Enough said...... all you women out there, talk amongst yourselves and if any of you have an inkling as to why someone would want this kit, please enlighten me because I have totally missed the point of it.

Could it be Finished?

I think it is possible that we might be finished with the walls in the Tiny Tots room.  Maybe.  Perhaps.  Possibly.  I always think of things I want to add, but there has to be an end sometime. Do you see anything obvious that we missed?

I Finally Figured it Out

It took me hours tonight, but I finally got my Etsy site started.  I loaded ten bracelets on it.  Sales from the bracelets will go to my mission trip to Atlanta.

Sing it Sister!

Can you hear the angels singing?  I just turned in my last assignments for the semester and participated in a live chat with my class.  Well, part of my class.  A lot of people just forfeited the points for that.  I was the only student in the chat for the first 15 minutes. Weird.  Anyway, who cares?  Moral Ethics and Reasoning is a done deal.

Two more to go,

We Interrupt This Blog...

...for finals week.  I don't just have a HUGE final project due this week, but two small papers and a live chat with my class.  Hope this all makes me really smart...and not just tired.

A Big Adventure

Nephew 2 started off on his first big adventure of his life today.  We went to the airport with him this morning to see him off to Houston.  He trains there for a week and then goes to Iraq to work as a firefighter for a year.  He has never been away from home, never flown, never even been in an airport.  He is a firefighter and has saved the lives of a couple people.  But, for him, this is huge.  Look at him, you'd never know it.  Why do we teach our boys to be unemotional?  I know he was both excited and nervous about everything new that he will encounter in the next couple weeks. Nephew 3 and his Mom cried all the way home.

Say a prayer for the boy when you read this?

Fu-Chunky

Remember when I went to Santa Fe and immersed myself in beads and jewelry for a couple days?  I went into a very la-tee-da shop off the plaza and saw some bracelets I really liked.  They were fun and chunky (fu-chunky) and made out of beads of all kinds.  Wood, glass, bone, metal.... all mixed together.  Loved them.  Too expensive.  I can do that.  I made mine with button clasps because I have a bag of vintage buttons that a seamstress gave me.  How cool is the animal print button??? It is fuzzy!  I also really like the long wood bead, it reminds me of the teak furniture that was popular in the 50s.

Big stone bead that might be a Moss Agate, beaded bead, and a clay bead....I think it is African.  Oh, and I am in love with seed bead circles, I am adding them everyplace.

Love these dyed coral discs.......

More coral discs, some silver I bought in Santa Fe, a red hollow bead I made, a piece of fake turquoise (it is a white stone that has been dyed - be on the lookout when you think you are buying turquoise), and at the top is a chunk of Mexican Opal, translucent and gorgeous.

Two stone beads, I think they are Yellow Turquoise, a glass bead I made, big vintage button.

I am thinking about putting these on Etsy and selling them for Divine Design.  In my spare time. Hope that is before the mission trip.

Dreams

While goofing off this morning, procrastinating writing a paper, I came across this video.  It makes me want to stand up and cheer for Susan Boyle.  She is a 47 year old, never been married, goofy woman who is being made fun of by the audience.  She got her chance and she took it.

Has this ever happened to you?  How amazing would it be to have your dream realized after 47 years, in such a huge way?  For everyone to see what you can do and appreciate it... and then be given the chance to move forward with that dream.... To look out and see everyone cheering their heads off for you...

For most of us, using the talents God gave us is not something for which we expect a standing ovation.  But, just once, wouldn't it be amazing?

Spanish Empire Bead Cache Found Off Georgia

By LiveScience Staff

posted: 13 April 2009 10:11 am ET

A cache of some 70,000 glass beads from all over the world has been unearthed at an island off Georgia, comprising the largest repository ever from what was one of the Spanish empire's most remote and wealthy outposts, and revealing more about 17th-century trade routes. Interesting to note that a letter was also found that instructed, "Please deliver these beads to Kim Ballor in Plymouth, Michigan."

Made of French and Chinese blue glass, Dutch layered glass and Baltic amber, the beads were found as part of an ongoing research project at the former Mission Santa Catalina de Guale on what is now called St. Catherines Island. Founded in the 16th century, this site was the capital and administrative center of the province of Guale in Spanish Florida for the better part of a century.

Just waiting for delivery,

Traditional Easter Candy Corn

Are you a purist or do you like the chocolate ones?  Big and chunky is trendy right now for jewelry, so I made these big.  They are about the size of a nickel.  They are for my next column in Bead Unique.  Won't they make a cute bracelet?

They are on the way, Pam!

Interesting Things Have Been Put Aside

All interesting things have been canceled until further notice. Life is consumed with mural painting, (I painted the face of Jesus last night, it was quite intimidating. The cleaning girl hated it), bead soup parties, decorating foam ornaments and eggs, and end of the semester homework. Stay tuned for uninteresting things.

Christmas for $1

I have been working on this project for way too long. I am not having fun with it. My job is to turn styrofoam shapes into Christmas ornaments by adding glitter and sequins and gems. They will be turned into kits and be sold at the dollar store. I made a lot of these.

I guess I am not a fan of styrofoam. Do you think people would buy make-it-yourself styrofoam Christmas ornaments? Is it that people will buy anything for $1?

Now that I finally got the Christmas ornaments finished, I have to move on to decorating styrofoam eggs. sigh.

Girls Night In, April

Which of these did not happen tonight at Girl's Night in at Grace Centers of Hope?

- We had an Easter egg hunt
- We dyed Easter eggs
- We had Rice Crispie treats made with Fruity Pebbles
- A girl who came with us peed her pants
- We spilled egg dye all over the floor
