Easing into Thanksgiving

The view was different than my normal city view on my walk this morning. Enjoyed it.

Meet the new member of the family. I hope she peels potatoes and does dishes.

Started cooking today. How did Thanksgiving Day get to be about pigging out?

Fun Day with the Girls

Spent the day with Niece 1, Niece 3, Smelly and Miss Fit. We started by them cleaning out piles of craft stuff from my office and taking it home. Thank you girls!! Then we went to Panera for lunch. Smelly had never been there, can you imagine? Vermont white cheddar macaroni and cheese was the hit of the day.

Then we went to IKEA. Smelly had never been there either. It was a big day for her.

Long day. The old girls lasted better than the young girls.

Enjoyed them. Wish we all lived closer to each other,

Boot Jewelry

Yes, you are not cool if your boots don't have their own jewelry. This is what I was doing tonight instead of homework and other more important stuff on my list. Life is too short. LITS!

I believe that now I need some new boots to show off my boot jewelry.

Nothing Lasts Forever

I went for a walk this morning and my neighborhood was quiet. I came home from that walk to find the house across the street half gone. Nobody has lived there for years. When I first moved into this neighborhood 10 years ago, I met the lady who lived there. She introduced herself as Schultzy. She came over and said how nice it was to see someone young move into the neighborhood. Of course, that made her my favorite. She was 96 years old at the time. She walked her dog around the block every day. She went swimming at the high school a couple times a week. And she still tutored troubled high schoolers in her home in the afternoons.

She told me that she and her husband built the house in 1950. They owned all of the land in the neighborhood. He died shortly after and she sold all of the land except where her house sat. She used the money to go to Europe 8 times.

I wish I had gotten to know her better before she left. Doesn't she sound like someone you want to know more about?

So, her house is being torn down today. It makes me think about how temporary every thing in this world is. The stuff we work so hard to build will be a pile of rubble some day. In 60 years, will my house be rubble? Will anyone notice? Will someone say they wished they had gotten to know me better and reflect on the things I did in my life that are worth remembering?

Mr. Creepy

I took a trip upstairs at church tonight to look in the storage room for Christmas ornaments. The room is a small flight of stairs above the top row of the balcony. It is as hot as the third level of hell up there. And dark. I opened the door and this guy scared the daylights out of me. Thankfully, I am not prone to screaming. And am able to restart my own heart. How creepy is he? He is life size. I am pretty sure that one of the boys propped him up there for the express purpose of scaring the daylights out of someone.

Wish he could use a rake, I would take him home.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Oh hallelujah, tonight I registered for my last class for my Master's Degree. I will have probably two semesters of thesis writing after that, but seeing that is self-paced, I should have fewer irritants with which to contend. I am praying for a good teacher and wonderful classmates with interesting and motivating topic. Is that all too much to ask? My last two classes have been doosies to say the least. And it is not helping that I am on the 2234 year plan and and just getting tired of it.

But, I have faith. Next semester will be a good one. I will learn something I can take home with me, besides how not to teach an online class. I have plenty of that information already.

Three weeks of this final doosie to go before Christmas break. Whee.

Barbie Footwear - The Homework Substitute

I reached my limit tonight after an hour of homework. I staged a protest. A jewelry protest. So, I watched So You Think You Can Dance and attached 30 Barbie shoes to a charm bracelet. Very un-serious jewelry. It was great therapy.

Back to homework tomorrow,

My Worldview

I am feeling a kind of desperate, panic induced need for this to be over. If you hear screaming, it is me.

It Lasts a Whole Year

I took my coupon to Border's today for the 2010 calendar hunt. It has to be good because I have to look at it all year, but I appreciate getting a discount. So, I can't decide between The Year of Manliness...

or the Mathematics Calendar 2010.

Seriously,
What's your vote?

Spring Fashion

These are my new beads for the spring issue of Bead Unique. Editorial direction was soft pink and white florals on wearables. Simple. The simplicity makes it cute. So what if we are raking leaves and stacking wood for the winter?

Spring has sprung,

Senses du Jour

My brain is on complete overload. But, I did take some time to notice what was happening around me today:

Sound of the day: leaf blowers
Sight of the day: God's children on their knees in church praying
Smell of the day: sweaty middle school girls trying to turn their dance into a prayer
Taste of the day: turkey bacon (weird?)
Touch of the Day: Fingers on Keyboard (50 pages worth)
